Favorite genres: science fiction, fantasy, mystery, paranormal romance (tilted toward more plot/fantasy), assorted straight fiction, some nonfiction (especially science and pop culture/sociology/politics)

Pastimes: reading, knitting, playing around with beads to make jewelry, cooking, gardening (hopefully next summer now that I have a garden), making thrown pottery (once upon a time and hopefully again some day)

Things that have formed me: I was trained as a scientist (molecular genetics) and for many years have been an editor and copy editor; I was bilingual in French and English from the age of about 4 to 17 (from growing up in Montreal and going to school in a French immersion program); I lived two years in Europe in my childhood; I was raised by skeptics (who were wonderful parents); I have two brothers and no sisters; I was single for a long time and married four years ago; I have one child, a baby son.
